In the first semester of my 2nd year of my degree, I had a video fundamentals module which focused on teaching some of the basic principals and techniques of video editing. We were introduced the free video editing software DaVinci Resolve which I found to be very impressive with its wide capabilities despite the fact that it was completely free. The final project for this module was to take a series of 18 clips from a promo video shoot for Body Glow Retreat and cut and compile them into a short promo video in whatever order I deemed to be most fitting. I used a number of transition effects and subtitling as well as using colour grading to make the different fruits and vegetables pop and look more appealing.
In my 2nd semester of my 3rd year of my degree, I had an advanced video production module which ramped up the level of video editing we would learn about and practice compared to the previous module in 2nd year. The first project for this module was an to create an animation video in whatever style we wanted. I was always a big fan of the iconic James Bond gunbarrell sequence seen in all the entries of the 007 series so I took inspiration from it and created something similar myself using only shapes and node based animation. The cards and logo for the Dealer of Death animation were created entirely by me in Photoshop then added into the video project in Resolve. If I was to do the project again, I would like to add music to the animation with a similar sound to the iconic James Bond theme.
For the final project for my advanced video production module, I had to create an experimental film. I took inspiration from popular found footage horror films such as the backrooms online series of videos that were very popular at the time. I took stock footage of different parts of the planet which every so often would be interjected with glitchy footage and sound that would over time, warp the original video more and more until the glitchy footage took over completely as if an extraterrestrial presence was taking over and showing us that we are not alone in the universe through real footage released by NAVAIR after being authorised by the US defence department. Many people believe this footage to be a real sighting of a UFO that could be linked to extraterrestrial life so it felt like the perfect found footage to use for my project to keep with the glitchy horror theme I was going for. I used many warping and glitch effects as well as overlaying the video with static video to achieve the found footage feeling I was aiming for.
